The Legacy Stone project is an idea developed by the President of Downhome Publishing Inc., Grant Young. After two years in the planning and development stages, Downhomer proudly unveiled the Legacy Stone project on September 22nd, 1999 at the historic Murray Premises in St. John's.

Well-known media personality Harry Brown, was the Master of Ceremonies for the event. We were privileged to have many special guests in attendance including Dale Russell-Fitzpatrick, granddaughter of the late premier, Joey Smallwood; Mayor of the City of St. John's, Andy Wells; members of government; associates and friends of Downhomer.

While Harry Brown welcomed guests to the event and told of the historical significance of Water Street as the Oldest Street in North America, Dale Russell-Fitzpatrick began the celebration by officially laying the first Legacy Stone for her grandfather.

Speeches and wishes of support concluded the launch and began the social reception where guests enjoyed feasting on a variety of Newfoundland fish specialties.
